How to control PowerPoint or PDF slides with your voice
These five steps use Fenot's standard web import workflow. Your PowerPoint or PDF is presented in Fenot's audience window, not a separate, already-open PowerPoint slideshow. You do not need a physical presentation clicker for voice commands.
- Sign in, import a PowerPoint (.pptx) or PDF, and open it in the presenter workspace. Preview the imported slides; pair a PPTX with its matching PDF export when you want checked export visuals and PowerPoint speaker notes.
- Turn AI navigation on and choose Voice commands. This mode asks for explicit instructions instead of letting ordinary talking points trigger context-based slide changes.
- Start the microphone, allow access when prompted, and check that the transcript reflects what you say. Confirm the speech language and test on the same browser, microphone, and network you will use for the talk.
- In English, try 'next', 'back', and 'slide 4' using a number that exists in your deck. Then say the exact title of a slide you want to revisit. Check the resulting slide before relying on those commands live.
- Select Present to open the audience window. Share only that window in your meeting or audience display, keep notes and controls private, and leave manual navigation available if recognition misses a command.
Check the microphone and language before going live
Grant microphone permission, choose voice-command mode, and verify the transcript before opening the audience view. Use the microphone you expect to present with: room echo, nearby speakers, and background voices can all affect recognition. Speech availability also depends on the browser, network, and configured service.
Automatic language detection and a manual language selection are available. Command vocabulary varies by language; do not assume every translated phrase is supported. Test the exact next, back, number, and title phrases you plan to use, especially when switching languages during a presentation.
Keep the audience window separate from your controls
Import a PowerPoint or PDF, preview its slides, and share the app's audience window rather than your entire control screen. PPTX speaker notes can remain visible privately to the presenter; a standalone PDF does not include that note context.
The slide visuals retain their presentation design rather than taking on the app theme. A PPTX conversion can change some details, so pair it with its exported PDF or images for a reference you have checked. The audience view is flattened and does not reproduce live PowerPoint animations.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use voice commands without context matching?
Yes. Select Voice commands to request navigation explicitly instead of having your talking points trigger context-based slide changes. You can switch modes from the presenter controls.
Can I use a presentation made in Google Slides or Keynote?
Export a copy as a PDF or PowerPoint (.pptx), then import that file into Fenot and check the result before presenting. This is a file-import workflow, not direct control of a live Google Slides tab or Keynote slideshow. A standalone PDF uses extractable slide text for matching; it does not provide private PowerPoint speaker notes.
What if a command is not recognized?
Check the transcript and selected language, then try a clearer command or a slide number. Manual slide controls remain available. Turn AI navigation off if you need to continue without speech recognition.
Can I navigate during a Q&A hold?
Explicit slide commands can redirect the deck while context-driven navigation is held. This lets you choose a supporting slide without letting the surrounding audience discussion trigger automatic topic matches.
Is voice navigation guaranteed to be hands-free?
It is designed to reduce the need for physical controls, but speech recognition can fail or misunderstand an instruction. Rehearse with your actual setup and keep an accessible manual alternative available.
